hair chalking! pt.2

okay, so we got asked a lot about chalk that was made for hair, and we didn’t really know the name of any, but we found one so we thought we would let you guys know about it c:

As you can see it’s called Color Bug by Kevin Murphy

it works just the same as pastel chalk would. it is just as easy to apply, and washes off the next day. They come in all different colors, however they are more expensive. They run about twenty to twenty five dollars.

here is a video on how to use the color bug, click here c:

and here is a review on the color bug, click here!

ten foods that make your hair grow. c:

Healthy Hair Food No. 1: Salmon

When it comes to foods that pack a beauty punch, it’s hard to beat salmon. Loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, this high-quality protein source is also filled with vitamin B-12 and iron.

“Essential omega-3 fatty acids are needed to support scalp health,” says Andrea Giancoli, MPH, RD, a dietitian in Los Angeles and a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. “A deficiency can result in a dry scalp and thus hair, giving it a dull look.”

Vegetarian? Include one or two tablespoons of ground flaxseed in your daily diet for some plant-based omega-3 fats.

Healthy Hair Food No. 2: Dark Green Vegetables

Popeye the Sailor Man didn’t eat all that spinach for healthy hair, but he could have. Spinach, like broccoli and Swiss chard, is an excellent source of vitamins A and C, which your body needs to produce sebum. The oily substance, secreted by your hair follicles, is the body’s natural hair conditioner.

Dark green vegetables also provide iron and calcium.

Healthy Hair Food No. 3: Beans

Beans, beans, they’re good for your … hair?

Yes, it’s true. Legumes like kidney beans and lentils should be an important part of your hair-care diet. Not only do they provide plentiful protein to promote hair growth, but ample iron, zinc, and biotin. While rare, biotin deficiencies can result in brittle hair.

Blatner, who is also a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association, recommends three or more cups of lentils or beans each week.

Healthy Hair Food No. 4: Nuts

Do you go nuts for thick, shiny hair? You should.

Brazil nuts are one of nature’s best sources of selenium, an important mineral for the health of your scalp.

Walnuts contain alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid that may help condition your hair. They are also a terrific source of zinc, as are cashews, pecans, and almonds. A zinc deficiency can lead to hair shedding, so make sure nuts are a regular on your healthy hair menu.

Healthy Hair Food No. 5: Poultry

Chickens and turkeys may have feathers, but the high-quality protein they provide will help give you the healthy hair you crave.

“Without adequate protein or with low-quality protein, one can experience weak brittle hair, while a profound protein deficiency can result in loss of hair color,” Giancoli tells WebMD.

Poultry also provides iron with a high degree of bioavailability, meaning your body can easily reap its benefits.

Healthy Hair Food No. 6: Eggs

When it comes to healthy hair, it doesn’t matter whether you like your eggs scrambled, fried, or over easy. However they’re served up, eggs are one of the best protein sources you can find.

They also contain biotin and vitamin B-12, which are important beauty nutrients.

Healthy Hair Food No. 7: Whole Grains

Sink your teeth into hearty whole grains, including whole-wheat bread and fortified whole-grain breakfast cereals, for a hair-healthy dose of zinc, iron, and B vitamins.

A whole-grain snack can also be a great go-to food when your energy is zapped halfway through the afternoon, and you’ve still got hours to go before dinner.

Healthy Hair Food No. 8: Oysters

Oysters may be better known for their reputation as an aphrodisiac, but they can also lead to healthy hair — and who doesn’t love that?

The key to their love and hair-boosting abilities is zinc — a powerful antioxidant.

If oysters don’t make a regular appearance on your dinner plate, don’t despair. In addition to getting it from whole grains and nuts, you can also get zinc from beef and lamb.

Healthy Hair Food No. 9: Low-Fat Dairy Products

Low-fat dairy products like skim milk and yogurt are great sources of calcium, an important mineral for hair growth. They also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources.

For some healthy hair foods “to-go,” try throwing a yogurt or cottage cheese cup in your bag when you head out in the morning to snack on later in the day. You can even boost their hair benefits by stirring in a couple of tablespoons of ground flaxseeds or walnuts for omega-3 fatty acids and zinc.

Healthy Hair Food No. 10: Carrots

Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, which promotes a healthy scalp along with good vision.

Since a healthy scalp is essential for a shiny, well-conditioned head of hair, you’d be wise to include carrots in your diet as snacks or toppings on your salad.

The Big Picture: A Balanced Diet for Healthy Hair

When it comes to foods for healthy hair and beauty, variety is the best way to go.

“An overall balanced diet of lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, fatty fish like salmon and low-fat dairy will help keep hair healthy,” Giancoli says.

If you’re tempted to drop pounds fast with the latest fad diet, it could leave you with less-than-healthy hair — along with a growling stomach. Low-calorie diets are often low in some of the most important nutrients for healthy hair, including omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and vitamin A. In addition to stunting hair growth and leading to dullness, super-low calorie plans may even cause hair loss.

so yes this is my hair and I need some advice because I really want to dip dye it! What colors do you think would look good? Also, if I get it bleached in a salon will it be better for my hair? I’m not sure If I can pull of the dip dye/ not sure if the bleach will make the ends of my hair too much of an absolute mess.
Yes, bleaching it in a salon is much better for your hair. For one, they know what they are doing and they are good at it. The bleach won’t make your hair in absolute mess, especially if you go to a salon. Dip dye’s aren’t hard to pull off, anyone can dip dye their hair and it will look cute. We think a pink dip dye would look really adorable on you! A really light pastel pink ^.^ Submit a picture to us if you do it!

Can you anyone give me tips on how to achieve this magnificent color?

You should bleach your hair, but the color is dark so you don’t have to bleach it very light. Manic panic enchanted forest is the dye we are almost positve she used.  (:

do you have any tips for me if i have medium brown hair and want my hair to look like this? its my first time dying :/ any kinds of dies or colors i should use to get this color? thanks!
well she has two different tones of brunette, that’s entirely up to you if you want to do that or not. we are guessing you do so, you’ll want to dye about half way down a dark brunette color or black. then you bleach your ends very light and dye them blue. You probably won’t need to add any conditioner to the dye, if you bleach light enough it will come out this color. For dyes you could try Manic Panic Atomic Turquoise, La Riche Directions Turquoise ( that might be a little dark) , Punky Color Lagoon Blue, or Special Effects Fish Bowl.

Straight, Defined Hair with Body, Bounce & Shape! (How To Make Your Hair Appear Thicker)

Just a bit of hair advice for anyone who wants it! NEVER EVER put your hair up to sleep. Let it loose! A tight ponytail will stress the shaft of your hair and cause breakage, especially if you toss and turn at night. It will also pull dye out of your hair, especially unnatural colored dye. I used to always sleep in a ponytail until I noticed I had an awful band of gray-blonde running right through the middle of my cute blue peekaboo layer. :(

ADVICE ON SHAVING YOUR HEAD: DO IT

I noticed someone had recently asked about shaving her head. I shaved my head last August and was hoping I could give those considering it some advice! First off: DO IT. There’s only so much time to do it before you’re employed in a professional environment where you don’t have much hair freedom. Secondly: Anticipate having to adjust your style slightly - bald heads look great with big earrings, and I ended up buying a lot of those. Third: Have no fear that you might look ugly or that your head is lumpy - nearly everyone can make the short haired look work, whether by adjusting their makeup, jewelry, or even just defining their eyebrows. Also, I was constantly astounded at how fast my hair grew. Finally: It will grow in unevenly and you’ll want to get it trimmed. Otherwise you’ll get a mullet after a few months.
I found that shaving my head was a very liberating and cathartic experience, and short hair is so much fun. If you’re debating it, watch a movie or find a famous person who rocked short hair. V for Vendetta is a great inspiration. It’s certainly something that takes time to get used to, but it’s something not many people can say they’ve done, and it’s a really fun look.
Oh and if anyone has questions about short hair (bald, buzzed, etc.) they can ask me!! And if you want pictures I’ve got those too. :) xx

Anonymous asks: what's the difference between a deep burgundy hair color and deep mahogany? :O

well we can see how you would think they are pretty much the same, and they are very close. Burgundy consists of more purple tones. You can have a red burgundy color and that will be lighter than mahogany. mahogany has more brunette tones in it. (:

hair chalking!

a little bit of everything you need to know c:

As you may know, hair chalking has been around for a little while now and it’s a great way to temporarily add color to your locks.  Below are some tips + tricks along with some very important advice for before and after…

D I R E C T I O N S:

  1. Wet small section of hair
  2. Rub with wax pastel to get desired amount of color
  3. Let dry
  4. Set color with heat tool

  • Twist the hair as you chalk. The texture from twisting makes the chalk release more pigment.
  • Always brush the excess powder out after chalking each piece.
  • If you’re blonde or you have blonde tips, DO NOT wet your hair before chalking. I will stain if you do because adding water to pure pigment creates a real dye. If you’re okay with the staining for several washes then go for it! If you’re looking to do color for the day, do not add water at any time.
  • If your hair color is anything darker than blonde and you don’t have blonde tips, you’ll NEED the water. Doubling the pigment is what will help the colors to show up on darker hair. Mist a little water on the strand with a spray bottle, then chalk it up! It won’t stain darker hair the same way it will on lighter hair.
  • Red heads– try it without water and if it’s just not showing up, add a little water. It just depends on how light or dark your red is.
  • Use only “soft pastels”. Senellier brand pastels have the brightest and most intense pay off . They’re nearly $4 per piece at Blick, which seems a little expensive, but so is hair color– and hair color removal. Regular chalk doesn’t work the same. It’s harder to transfer and getting it to stick to your hair can be virtually impossible.
  • Soft chalk pastels can be found at any major art store. Just don’t get “soft chalk” pastels confused for oil pastels. If you’re confused, ask a sales person. Removing oil pastels would be a nightmare, not to mention, they’d feel very sticky.

  • Try doing 2 colors on one strand! Really fun and looks tie-dyed!
  • Always wear a robe or cape and lay something down on the floor to catch the chalk dust that falls off. This stuff gets EVERYWHERE!
  • It will get on your clothes during the day, so try and wear something close to the color you’re sporting.
  • Doing updos with chalked hair is ideal because you won’t get as much on your outfit.
  • Before you shower, brush with a soft, natural hair brush get out as much pigment as you possibly can! It should come off almost all the way with brushing.
  • Don’t chalk your hair too often. At the end of the day, you’re usingpowderpigment on the ends of your hair and that can suck up a lot of natural moisture that you need in the ends of your hair.
  • Shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo after chalking. Soft chalk pastels use “gum arabic” as a binder. It’s a very very small amount and totally natural, but it’s made from a tree sap so it’s really important to get it all out.
  • Conditioning treatment is a MUST after you wash out your chalk. Replenish the moisture that may get sucked out with chalking.
  • The chalk will probably last about a day, or come out when you wash it.

Video’s ! 1 & 2 (:

ONE: Go to a department store and ask the sales person for a sample of your favorite perfume. Tuck that into the corner along with some bobby pins for any hair mishaps that may occur. You could even wrap them together with using a ponytail holder just in case you want to throw all your hair up later. Having them in the corner of your bag makes them a lot easier to find.
TWO: If you think you’ll need hairspray make sure you pick up a travel size bottle. Put it in the very bottom of your purse along with a comb. Those are the two things you’re going to touch less than the others, so putting them toward the bottom makes the most sense.
THREE: Your phone, blotting papers, and a flat leather card case will sit flat, side-by-side. Plus having your ID, debit card and/or cash in one place will keep you from having to dig around.
FOUR: Take a fancy vintage-inspired lipstick + compact to keep it cute! You can check the back of your hair in the bathroom mirror using your compact.
FIVE: Trusty Tip- use a quick shot of spray paint to color match a safety pin (or two) to your dress for any emergencies. Tuck those into the other side along with some individual pieces of gum or couple of mints.
